 Hi, I’m Bertie Victor!

Hello and a warm welcome to you all! I’m thrilled that you’ve taken a moment to step into my creative space and explore the world through my lenses.

My name is Bertie, and I am the storyteller behind the images you can see on this website. It is not just a digital portfolio for me; it’s a window into the moments, emotions, and memories that I’ve had the privilege to capture over the years working as a professional photographer.

Perhaps you’ve stumbled upon my site while searching for a photographer to capture your wedding day, maybe you’re seeking inspiration for your next artistic modelling project, or you have a business you want to take to the next level through quality imagery. No matter the reason, I’m here to guide you through a collection of images that celebrate the beauty of form. Each photograph carries a piece of my passion in this field.

So, as you navigate through my galleries, envision yourself walking beside me during my photography adventures. If you’re here seeking a photographer, I can’t wait to learn more about your vision and bring it to life with you. And if you’re here to simply appreciate art, I hope my work leaves an imprint on you.

Thank you for visiting, and please make yourself at home in my little visual sanctuary. Your presence here is an honour, and I’m genuinely excited to share my world with you.

I started my creative journey trying all that I could when I was younger. Out of College as a graphic designer I would create posters and logo designs for bands including CD cover artwork, gig posters, and more. I have always loved the art of pencil and ink drawing and I try to translate that emotive flow in my photography.

At university I was a music studio engineer working with musicians in varying recording studios and live music venues. I started my own audio recording business and did this for over 12 years. This took me far and wide, travelling across Europe with different artists as a stage manager and mix engineer for large private events. This progressed to managing and organising events, creating bespoke graphics and social media assets for these events myself.

I then trained to use video and photo editing software which allowed me to make content for business websites. A transition to portrait and product photography was inevitable and I’ve not looked back!

For the last five years I have shot portraits, events and candid documentary-style images for many professionals and businesses in the UK, and have been really lucky to secure overseas portrait work with many wonderful families at private parties. I had the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time in France for the Le Mans 24hr racing seasons over the last few years. I now spend some of my time there during the race season, capturing custom images for people wanting something different in the surrounding areas. If I am lucky it sometimes involves their beautifully extravagant and expensive cars, their wonderfully welcoming friends and family groups, and seasonal corporate shoots which is amazing fun for all involved.

I really enjoy the portrait aspect of my work, and I prefer less formal style headshots to tell the character of my subjects. The candid photos I take have a story-telling quality to them and I portray those images in glorious detail through my private client galleries which are password protected for your privacy.

I use my photo studios in Southport, Formby and Ormskirk to perform portfolio work for actors and models of all ages. Consistent background options, correct lighting and a large indoor space makes Bertie Victor’s studio photography in Southport a fun experience, and it is available to all. I have a great relationship with Express Kids Casting in Southport – I capture acting photo portfolio collections for their roster of under 18 casting applicants. You can see some of these examples in my gallery.

I am always interested in doing something new and unique so don’t hesitate to ask if you have something different in mind than ‘traditional’ images! You can contact me direct using the contact page in the menu. I look forward to hearing from you!

I treat my photography work as art. It requires creative drive and imaginative framing. A great photographer can see something somewhat ordinary, and paint a stunning picture of the emotive mindset it portrays. Beautiful and meaningful, story-telling photographs make for intruige and wonder. I want to capture the essence of you with added flair.

Composition is key to a great photograph and I include all that is necessary to convey the personal message or values of your images.

An excellent photographer has a eye for detail that is more trained than the average photographer. The mixture between the main elements within the frame; lighting, composition, subjects and everything else in between, work in harmony to create the best photography.

Key elements to our photography – Composition, Lighting, Emotion, Clarity and Story-Telling. The smallest detail can make or break a photograph so having an experienced photographer who is meticulous in process, is vital to produce the perfect photography set.

There will be a day when things go wrong – bad weather, awful lighting, bad hair days. But I am patient and calm in all situations. Patience is key to being a great photographer. It may take many shots to get the desired results but I am able to analyse when to change tactics on the fly to overcome these issues quickly and effectively. My experience has taught me many things like to always have spare batteries, cards and cables! I am always prepared for the inevitable and unexpected, just incase.

Being a professional photographer means working with lots of demanding people such as business clients working to a deadline, a model wanting specific shots or even alongside a fellow photographer for a larger job. Being a good photographer means being polite and curteous, but being an professional means going the extra mile to make sure the client is over-satisfied. Good work yields good results and I always want a happy client.
I am able to stand up and direct people and groups when necessary, but would always prefer the natural, candid look of my portrait and wedding photography.

What sets a great photographer apart from the others? Passion and flair for the love of the photography and it’s ability to inspire and move people. I care about the details and enjoy the editing process just as much as the shooting itself. This is where my creativity can come out and I can show my retouching skills in their full glory.

I hope my passion shines through in my work. It takes a lot of time and effort to make it as a professional photographer, and I work hard with a meaningful drive to help others along the way. My photography is my craft and I love the meet people on my adventures.

My most worked areas – always happy to travel out further on request!

Equipment used during sessions

Sony Alpha camera bodies:

Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras are highly regarded in the photography community for their outstanding performance and innovative features.

One of the main reasons they excel is their exceptional image quality, thanks to the powerful full-frame sensors and advanced image processors. These cameras also offer impressive and accurate tracking, making them ideal for capturing fast-moving subjects and ensuring sharp results. The compact and lightweight design of Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras makes them easy to carry around, allowing for more flexibility and convenience during shoots.

Primes lenses:

Prime lenses are favoured for their exceptional image quality and creative potential. Unlike zoom lenses, which cover a range of focal lengths, prime lenses have a fixed focal length, allowing for greater optical precision and sharpness.

This design eliminates the complexity of moving lens elements resulting in less distortion and vignetting, producing consistently superior images. Prime lenses also tend to have wider apertures, enabling better low-light performance and beautiful background blur (bokeh) for stunning subject isolation. Shooting with a prime lens encourages photographers to be more deliberate and creative in composing their shots, pushing boundaries. Overall, prime lenses are a powerful tool in the hands of photographers seeking uncompromising image quality and artistic expression.

Professional lighting is paramount for a successful studio photography session as it profoundly influences the quality and impact of the final images.

Controlled lighting allows photographers to shape and sculpt the subject, enhancing their features and creating visually stunning effects. By using various lighting techniques, shadows can be minimized or accentuated, adding depth and dimension to the photographs. Consistent and even illumination ensures that colors are accurately represented, bringing out the true character of the subjects. Moreover, professional lighting setups offer versatility, enabling photographers to adapt to different styles and moods, whether it’s for fashion, portraiture, product, or artistic photography. The mastery of lighting also allows for precise control over the ambiance and atmosphere, adding drama, intimacy, or a sense of timelessness to the images.
